Unfortunately, this isn't unusual. Lovely "catch-&-release" fishing guides have inadvertently trained the sharks. So you pull a 50-year old bill fish to the surface, wear it out, then turn it loose for the Tigers to tear apart. I've even heard a guide blame the sharks--what a delusional tool.
